Keep Tahoe Blue Schools

Creating the next generation of environmental stewards

Place-Based Environmental Education

How do students learn to care for Lake Tahoe? By experiencing what makes it special and understanding what threatens it.

Keep Tahoe Blue’s environmental educators provide hands-on, experiential learning for local and visiting students, connecting them with the Tahoe environment. Through our place-based educational model, we work to build a lifelong sense of appreciation, respect, and responsibility for Lake Tahoe in kids from pre-K through college.

How We Teach

Learning happens in classrooms, outdoors, and through shared experiences. Our educators make Tahoe science accessible, engaging, and relevant to students of different ages.
Tahoe-Focused Lessons
We create age-appropriate lessons that connect environmental science to Lake Tahoe’s ecosystems, water quality, and conservation challenges. Students learn how natural environments work and how their choices affect them.
Environmental Science Field Trips
We take learning outside, where students can observe Tahoe’s environment firsthand. Guided field trips encourage curiosity, scientific thinking, and a deeper understanding for Lake Tahoe.
Learning at Our Education Center
Our Spurlock/Evers Environment & Education Center brings Tahoe science to life through interactive exhibits and hands-on activities. Students explore topics including watershed health, invasive species, sediment, and plastic pollution.
Learning with Local Organizations
These partnerships connect students with new learning opportunities, different perspectives, and real-world conservation work.
