Billy Knutsen
Billy Knutsen has been fortunate to spend time in Tahoe throughout his entire life. Since first becoming involved with the Keep Tahoe Blue’s Associate Board in 2017, he has focused on expanding fundraising efforts and connecting with supporters committed to protecting the clarity and natural beauty of Lake Tahoe.
Billy earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from American University, where he captained the varsity soccer team before being drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes to play in Major League Soccer. He later completed his MBA at UCLA Anderson and went on to become an active early-stage operator and investor. Today, he works at an early-stage climate venture capital fund focused on innovations in energy optimization, AI infrastructure, and grid modernization.
A San Francisco native, Billy spent much of his childhood in Tahoe – hiking, water skiing, and mountain biking – experiences that shaped his lifelong connection to the Lake. He and his wife, Kate, were married in South Lake Tahoe and return often. In the summer, they can be found chasing the sunrise on Mt. Tallac, and in the winter, backcountry skiing with their dog, Maverick.
Tahoe remains central to Billy’s life, values, and commitment to conservation.
