Sand Harbor Closures Depend on Visitation

From Memorial to Labor Day Sand Harbor is very popular and experiences high visitation.  Those planning to visit Sand Harbor should be prepared for park closures and have an alternate destination in mind. Parking along Highway 28 is prohibited, and walk-ins are currently not allowed.

Vehicle Parking Access: Sand Harbor’s popularity can make it difficult to enter from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The main day-use area opens at 8 a.m. and visitors may enter the park on a first-come, first-served basis.  The parking lot at Sand Harbor is usually full by 9 a.m. and on weekdays by 10 a.m. On weekends and holidays visitors should be prepared for traffic congestion on Highway 28. Fee booths only accept cash during the summer months. Once the parking lot is closed, vehicles will not be allowed to enter the park until it reopens, which is usually by 5 p.m.

Alternative Access: East Shore Express – The East Shore Express will not operate for the 2020 summer season.vTahoe East Shore Trail – Access to Sand harbor via the Tahoe East Shore Trail is currently closed. The trail remains open from Tunnel Creek to Memorial Point.
