Report finds that Lake Tahoe is losing its clarity. Here’s why:

UC Davis released its annual State of the Lake report on Thursday, where it revealed the lake is losing its clarity due to algae and shrimp. In 2019, the lake’s clarity averaged almost 63 feet, down nearly 8 feet from 2018’s dramatic 10-foot improvement.

The report found that billions of tiny and invasive shrimp were responsible for the rise in particles and algae- severely impacting water clarity.
