Could you imagine the pristine forested landscape around the Lake Tahoe Basin replaced by high-rise buildings and housing developments in a city the size of San Francisco?

The winding scenic roads surrounding the lake replaced with high-speed freeways and a bridge across Emerald Bay? Such was the plan in the late 1960s following two decades of rapid growth.
