Summer in Tahoe brings sunny days, more people on the water, and more opportunities for aquatic invasive species to spread.
Golden mussels remain one of the most urgent threats facing Lake Tahoe. These tiny invasive mussels can spread rapidly, disrupt ecosystems, damage infrastructure, and turn Tahoe's iconic blue water to a murky green. They have not been found in the Lake, and boat inspectors recently stopped an infested boat before it entered the Basin, showing that Tahoe's prevention system is working. We highlighted this threat in a recent op-ed in the San Francisco Chronicle.
One of the most effective defenses is also one of the simplest. Clean, Drain, Dry EVERY boat, paddleboard, kayak, piece of fishing gear, and water toy before hitting the water.
This month, we're highlighting two Tahoe Blue Businesses that turn support for the Lake into sustained action. Through donations, cleanups, community events, and partnerships, Black Bear Lodge and Omni Tahoe are helping strengthen the shared effort to stop threats early and protect Lake Tahoe. |

Black Bear Lodge has built support for Lake Tahoe into both its business model and the guest experience.
For the second year, the South Lake Tahoe boutique hotel is donating $1 from every occupied room night to support Keep Tahoe Blue's mission. Last fall, the program generated $5,000 for Lake-saving work.
That commitment extends beyond giving. Black Bear Lodge follows sustainable business practices and partners with local businesses to create experiences that connect guests with Tahoe's community and the natural setting they came to enjoy. |

For OMNI Tahoe, caring for the community and caring for Lake Tahoe go hand in hand.
The South Lake Tahoe yoga studio has built stewardship into its culture by running its own Tahoe Blue Crew cleanups, hosting fundraising yoga classes benefiting Keep Tahoe Blue, and organizing events that bring people together around wellness and stewardship of Tahoe. Earlier this spring, they combined a community yoga class with a cleanup effort, turning a day of movement into a day of action for the Lake.
On June 20, 4-8 pm, OMNI Tahoe and Black Bear Lodge will partner for a Summer Solstice Community Event featuring movement, meditation, music, and connection beneath the pines. |
