Spring is here, and Earth Month is just around the corner. It's also one of the most important times of year to show up for the Lake.
From volunteer season kickoff events on the South Shore and North Shore to hands-on workshops, community festivals, and the return of our 11th Annual Earth Day Cleanup, there are countless ways to take action this season.
When you join a cleanup, donate, or simply choose to care for Tahoe in your daily actions, you join a community of people who believe love and collaboration are the most powerful ways to protect the Lake.
Make this the season you step in and make a difference. |

We honor the life of Joan Lane, a dedicated supporter and dear friend of Keep Tahoe Blue and a champion for Lake Tahoe for decades. Joan and her family have played a lasting role in protecting the Lake, including their generous support as the naming sponsor of The Howard and Kathryn Fletcher Garden at our Spurlock/Evers Environment & Education Center.
Joan's support of our work to protect Lake Tahoe, where she spent summers dating back to her elementary school days, was extensive. She was a mentor, ambassador and role model for the Keep Tahoe Blue team for decades.
Her legacy lives on in the spaces that inspire visitors to learn, connect, and care for Tahoe. We are grateful for Joan's enduring care for Tahoe, her family's continued support, and the impact they have made on this place we all love. |

What Tahoe’s Beach Robots Are Revealing |
| |
|
Tahoe's fleet of beach-cleaning robots notched an impressive set of achievements in 2025. Our partners at ECO-CLEAN Solutions and their three BEBOTs conducted 20 cleanings at 11 beaches. Since launching in 2022, the team has completed more than 60 cleanups, covering over 1.5 million square feet of shoreline.
In this new interactive StoryMap, explore what BEBOT uncovered beneath the sand and how this data is helping shape smarter, more effective beach-cleaning practices. This work is made possible through a collaboration between ECO-CLEAN Solutions, the Desert Research Institute, and Keep Tahoe Blue. |

Core Volunteer Spotlight: Bob Harms |
|
|
If you've attended any of our volunteer events, you've likely met Bob Harms. He's often the first to arrive and one of the last to leave, ready to help wherever needed, and always leaving Tahoe better than he found it.
Bob volunteers because protecting the Lake matters deeply to him. At a recent cleanup, he personally guided a first-time volunteer through the data collection process, helping them feel confident contributing.
When he's not volunteering with us, you might spot Bob giving his time to other community organizations or riding his bike around town, complete with more than twenty horns and a Keep Tahoe Blue bell. We're immensely grateful for Bob's dedication and the example he sets for others. |

Tahoe Blue Crew Leader Spotlight: Phil & Deb Olivieri |
| |
|
Phil and Deb Olivieri are on a mission to keep Lake Tahoe's shoreline cleaner than they found it.
As Tahoe Blue Crew leaders, they focus on the Lakeside-Edgewood area, stopping litter before it reaches the Lake. Along the way, they've pulled out more than just trash, everything from golf clubs and fishing gear to drones and even a phone still attached to a tripod.
They keep making a difference because they want to give back and help make Tahoe special for everyone. |

Staff Spotlight: Rosie Hackett |
|
|
Rosie Hackett is helping shape the next generation of Tahoe stewards. As Keep Tahoe Blue's Education Manager, she leads hands-on learning in the classroom, outdoors, and at our Spurlock/Evers Environment & Education Center, guiding students through the science behind protecting Lake Tahoe.
With more than 30 years of experience in outdoor education and program leadership, Rosie brings depth, abundant energy, and real-world perspective to her work.
She previously built and led programs at Lake Tahoe Community College and Sierra Nevada College, helping thousands of students develop skills, confidence, and a connection to the environment.
Rosie was recently featured on the Adventure Outdoors Network Lake Tahoe TV, giving a behind-the-scenes look at our Education Center, which welcomed over 500 middle school students for hands-on learning about the Lake's natural history and how they can become the next generation of Lake stewards. |
