One of Lake Tahoe's most important layers of protection are healthy meadows.
On September 26, volunteers will gather at Johnson Meadow on the South Shore for the 29th Annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day to support restoration along the Upper Truckee River. As the Lake's largest source of fine sediment particles, the river plays a major role in Tahoe's water clarity. Historic land uses disrupted the watershed's natural function. Restoring meadows and floodplains helps slow runoff, capture sediment, and strengthen Tahoe's resilience in the face of a changing climate. Join Keep Tahoe Blue at Johnson Meadow and help restore a natural system that protects the Lake. This month, we're also highlighting three Tahoe Blue Businesses whose ongoing stewardship shows how local partnerships help sustain that work.

As a Tahoe Blue Business, Clearly Tahoe shares aquatic invasive species prevention information through its guided tours, storefronts, and social media.
At its Zephyr Cove location, the company has introduced a tracking system for paddleboards and kayaks that limits their exposure to invasive species. Equipment taken beyond the designated area must be decontaminated before returning to service.
Clearly Tahoe is also working with Keep Tahoe Blue on a special fundraising experience that will turn time on the water into support for Lake-saving work. From guest education to hands-on prevention and community support, the partnership helps people enjoy Tahoe while protecting the Lake. |

Sunnyside Marina has been part of the fabric of Lake Tahoe boating since the 1950s, helping generations of visitors and locals enjoy the Lake from the West Shore. As a Tahoe Blue Business, Sunnyside is putting that connection to work. On August 13, they hosted one of our Eyes on the Lake citizen science trainings at Sunnyside Restaurant & Lodge, helping participants learn to identify and report aquatic invasive species.
The marina has also reserved a dedicated space for Keep Tahoe Blue in its quarterly newsletter, reaching boaters with important information about golden mussels and other aquatic invasive species. |
