Tahoe's Restoration: From Motel to Marsh |
Read this eNewsletter online | |

For decades, Keep Tahoe Blue and our partners have worked to reclaim 31 acres of environmentally sensitive land along the Upper Truckee River, one of the Lake’s most important natural pollution filters.
Now, that long-term vision is becoming reality. The former Motel 6 buildings, parking lots, and pool have been entirely removed, clearing the way for restoration planning to begin.
Keep Tahoe Blue proudly supports the California Tahoe Conservancy in this new chapter of renewal, restoring vital marsh and river habitats while returning the land to its natural state. It’s a win for Tahoe’s future, made possible through collaboration and persistence. |

Volunteer Spotlight: Tahoe’s Community Champions |

Featured Core Volunteer: Naomi Morgan |
When Naomi Morgan and her husband moved to the Tahoe Basin nearly a decade ago, it wasn’t just for the views but for the feeling of connection Tahoe brings.
That deep love for nature inspires her work with Keep Tahoe Blue. Naomi bridges communities, partnering with local Reno businesses to share our iconic "Keep Tahoe Blue" sticker. “Every sticker out there,” she says, “is a sign that someone cares about this Lake.”
Every July 5th, she joins the Keep Tahoe Red, White & Blue Beach Cleanup, helping restore Tahoe’s shoreline after the holiday crowds. |

Tahoe Blue Crew Spotlight:
Cara Bourne |
As the Kirkwood Blue Crew leader, Cara rallies people to remove litter and protect the environment they love. Her team has found everything from lost snowboard boots to piles of discarded hand warmers. “We find too many hand warmers after the snow melts,” she says, “but with service, education, and policy, we can continue protecting this beautiful resource together.” From spring wildflowers to snowy peaks, Cara’s passion reminds us that Tahoe’s beauty is worth protecting in every season. |
