Keep Tahoe Blue and Sierra Watch announce landmark agreement on Palisades Tahoe development project
Today, we announced that we reached an agreement with Palisades Tahoe which ends our legal challenge to the resort’s proposed development project in Olympic Valley and the unacceptable impacts it promised for Lake Tahoe. This news is the culmination of a decade-plus journey that started when Keep Tahoe Blue and Sierra Watch — our partner in this litigation effort — first opposed a massive, proposed expansion of the resort’s village.
Under the settlement agreement, all parties agree on a new vision for the Village at Palisades Tahoe project with major reductions in its size and scale that: -
Reduces the total bedrooms in the plan by 40%
- Reduces total new commercial space by 20% in the Main Village area
- Replaces the proposed indoor waterpark with a smaller Mountain Adventure Center
-
Protects the land at the base of Shirley Canyon that was tagged for development by creating a conservation easement, preserving the land for recreation and public trail access in perpetuity
- Prevents additional development within the project’s Specific Plan boundary for 25 years
-
Cuts upwards of 38% of new daily car trips from the project, many of which would have entered the Tahoe Basin, preventing more traffic, air pollution, and water pollution that would threaten the Lake’s water quality and clarity
If Placer County approves the revised blueprint, the agreement would end our legal challenge to the County's 2024 approvals. |
We are proud to have reached a resolution that reflects our unique approach as a science-based and solutions-oriented organization committed to finding ways to Keep Tahoe Blue. We took a stand to protect Lake Tahoe, and the result is an outcome that will uplift the social, economic, and environmental needs of Olympic Valley and the Lake Tahoe region. While we are satisfied with the result of this agreement, we know there is still more work to do in Tahoe and beyond. With your support, we will continue to carry out our role as Tahoe’s environmental watchdog. Together, we Keep Tahoe Blue. Thank you. |
