Great news, Tahoe-lovers! The Lake Tahoe Restoration Reauthorization Act, a critical source of federal support for Environmental Improvement Program projects since the original act was passed in 2000, has been signed into law! With this victory, the door stays open through 2034 for almost $300 million to flow to the Basin for projects that: protect Tahoe’s water clarity, restore its ecosystems, defend it against invasive species, and build its resilience to wildfire.
Together with our Members of Congress and local partners in Team Tahoe, the League has worked for more than two years to push this piece of legislation across the finish line. Now that the funds have been reauthorized by Congress, our next job is to make sure they are appropriated, so they can be spent in Tahoe. Our advocacy work continues; your support makes it possible. Prop 4: California’s Best Defense Against Wildfire |

Wildfire is a growing threat to the American West, including our Jewel of the Sierra. In fact, California’s eight largest wildfires have occurred since 2018. The League supports a YES vote on California’s Proposition 4 to reduce the severity of wildfires and protect Tahoe’s public health and environment. Prop 4 will invest in vital forest health projects, including controlled burns and mechanical thinning, which will protect our communities and in doing so, save taxpayers money for disaster response. Let’s take proactive steps today to safeguard Tahoe for generations to come. Vote YES on Prop 4 this November.

Village at Palisades Tahoe Project Update: The Fight Continues |

For a decade, the League has consistently opposed the Project because it would generate huge amounts of new traffic – as many as 3,330 new daily car trips on already busy summer days – bringing air and water pollution that would harm the Lake. After a series of public meetings over the past several months, the next and last step for the Project is a decision by the Placer County Board of Supervisors later this fall, on a date to be decided.
The League is not backing down. We remain committed to protecting Tahoe’s environment from unwise development, no matter where it is located. We encourage you to learn about the plan and what it means for Tahoe, stay engaged, and share your thoughts with the Placer County Board of Supervisors, whose final vote is expected in the coming weeks. Together, we will Keep Tahoe Blue. |
