Here are some of the projects, plans, and issues we're working on now.

Snowy Fun, Sustainably

By the time you read this, Tahoe will hopefully be blanketed by the biggest snow of 2025. Now is a good time to do a celebratory dance. Go ahead. We're happy to wait.

If you're enjoying the fresh stuff this weekend or anytime this winter, you can also do your part to Keep Tahoe Blue. Take advantage of these Lake-friendly travel options and let someone else do the driving while you prevent pollution from entering the Lake. Also, make sure to leave no trace when you're outdoors. Trash that's out of sight under the snow may be out of mind, but that doesn't keep it out of the Lake.

Thank you. Together, we will Keep Tahoe Blue for all.

Support the Lake

Calling all Citizen Scientists:
25th Annual Snapshot Day is Coming!

Mark your calendar – Snapshot Day returns on May 10, 2025, and we're celebrating the event's 25th anniversary! This annual citizen science event brings together volunteers of all ages to monitor the health of waterways across the Truckee River Watershed. Participants collect water samples from creeks, streams, and the Lake itself to test for dissolved oxygen, pH, nutrients, and other key indicators of water quality. Whether you join a team, create your own, or become a trained Team Lead, your efforts will help track trends and support the ongoing protection of Tahoe’s pristine waters.

Curious about past results? Explore the 2024 Snapshot Day Report and interactive StoryMap to see the findings from last year’s monitoring efforts. Data collected by volunteers informs long-term conservation strategies and helps guide environmental protections for the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Keeping the Snow Pristine

This season is the perfect opportunity to enjoy Tahoe's outdoors – and to leave them better than you found them.

Winter snow may cover up what's left behind after sledding, skiing, and other cold-weather adventures, but it doesn't make them disappear. By leaving no trace on your next outing, you can make sure that pieces of plastic sleds, food wrappers, and other potential litter items wind up in the trash where they belong, not in Tahoe's environment.

The League's volunteers and Tahoe Blue Crews clean up litter year-round, collecting data on what we find to pinpoint problem areas and advocate for solutions, significantly reducing winter waste. Beyond cleanups, we work with businesses and the community to promote reusable alternatives and stop litter before it starts.

Read our latest blog to learn more about the League's efforts to combat winter litter and how you can help Keep Tahoe Blue.
