HELP RESTORE THE ANGORA FIRE SITE
League Hosts 10th Annual Tahoe Forest Stewardhip Day
September 30, 2007

Join hundreds of your neighbors as we help to restore an area burned by the Angora Fire at the League to Save Lake Tahoe’s 10th Annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day.  Volunteers will help in the restoration efforts on a public 30-acre parcel owned by the California Tahoe Conservancy above Mule Deer Circle.  The Conservancy has removed burned trees in the area and volunteers will help to re-seed the area with native plants, spread mulch to prevent erosion, stabilize the soil with contour logs, plant trees and help with Stream Channel restoration.

“The community has lost so much.  This is a good opportunity to begin restoring land that is immediately adjacent to the affected neighborhood,” says Rochelle Nason, Executive Director of the League.  “The site includes popular biking and hiking trails and the TFSD efforts will not only prevent erosion and improve scenic quality, but will help in restoring the area so that it can be enjoyed again by the public.”

Volunteers will also have a chance to learn about the Angora Fire, its impacts, and agency restoration efforts.  The event also includes a raffle and lunch for all participants and a free appreciation gift for the first 500 volunteers.  And new to TFSD this year is a special area just for kids!  They will learn about forest health and wildlife, and  will also participate in restoration activities.

Volunteers of all activity levels and ages are welcome and should wear closed-toed shoes and work clothes.  Please bring work gloves, hardhats, rakes, and shovels if you have them.  To volunteer, contact Lily Galli with the League at 530-541-5388 or lily@keeptahoeblue.org.  Registration is required.

The burn area is still closed to the public until November 1st.  Volunteers will be restricted to the Forest Stewardship Day site and will be strictly monitored to ensure the safety of all participants.  Carpooling is encouraged!
