Hurricane on the Bayou and The Last Stand: Heroes at Ballona Wetlands
Hurricane on the Bayou highlights the importance of preserving wetland against the dramatic backdrop of Hurricane Katrina. Filled with Bayou spirit, Cajun tunes, and New Orleans culture, this film simultaneously educates and entertains! When one of the last remaining wetlands in Southern California is threatened by a mega-development complex, community members rally to the cause of preservation. The Last Stand: Heroes at Ballona Wetlands tells the moving story of a community’s emotional journey to save their wetlands. Please join us at the Urban Trailhead in Heavenly Village (between Cecil’s steakhouse and the Marriott) for the Watershed Film Series.

Tour of Cookhouse Meadows
We are partnering with the US Forest Service to tour Cookhouse Meadows, an area high in the Upper Truckee River Watershed. This area was once badly damaged and eroded due to cattle grazing, highway construction, and flooding. The Forest Service recently restored the area to its natural state. Cookhouse Meadows now serves as a natural water filtration system and a hot spot of biodiversity. Please join us for a tour and learn about the importance of watersheds and wetlands.
