    The League to Save Lake Tahoe is searching for an outgoing, community-minded individual to help our Community Engagement Team. The Community Engagement Associate (CEA) is responsible for helping to create an informed and engaged community that supports the League’s priority goals and mission. The CEA assists with the League’s citizen science programs by helping to recruit and train program volunteers, prepare and execute events, and conduct general outreach at events throughout Tahoe. The CEA assists with tracking and managing data and reporting on program/event activities. The position also represents the League at public presentations, community events, and other projects. 

    This position is seasonal, running from April to October 2024. The CEA will report directly to the Senior Community Engagement Manager.

    What the position involves: 
    • Event support: pack supplies, execute the day’s tasks, clean up, and put away equipment.  
    • Support the coordination and execution of community cleanups, Eyes on the Lake outreach and trainings, Tahoe Forest Stewardship Days, and community tabling opportunities. 
    • Coordinate events for Tahoe Blue Crew participation and conduct outreach for upcoming trainings. 
    • Connect with Tahoe Blue Crews around the Tahoe Basin. Organize and deliver equipment to Crews, and call Crew leaders to check in.  
    • Other outreach and volunteer events as needed. 
    • Ensure the Community Engagement storage units are cleaned and organized. 
    • Conduct inventory of Community Engagement materials and keep the inventory spreadsheet up to date. 
    • Post promotions for upcoming events around the community, and on online community calendars. 
    • Restock Keep Tahoe Blue stickers at participating businesses throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin and Truckee. 
    Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
    • An interest in environmental conservation and the League’s mission to protect, restore, and advocate for the ecosystem health and scenic beauty of the Lake Tahoe Basin. 
    • Familiarity with Lake Tahoe environmental issues. 
    • Exceptional public speaking and communications skills. 
    • Excellent phone manners and customer service. 
    • Detail-oriented with a high degree of reliability in managing multiple data and records simultaneously using Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and/or database software. 
    • Flexibility to work nights and weekends. 
    • Ability to set appropriate priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects and relationships simultaneously. 
    • Ability to work effectively with teams and diverse individuals. 
    • Ability and willingness to work outside and occasionally in bad weather. 
    • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required. 
    League-specific requirements: 
    • Employees are required to have a vehicle that is in good working order, proof of valid driving license, non-expired vehicle registration, and effective insurance coverage. Travel around the Tahoe Basin will be required.  
    • Position requires some physical activity, such as bending, stooping, carrying and lifting up to 50 pounds.

    The League to Save Lake Tahoe is searching for a dynamic, detail-oriented, intuitive, and analytical professional to support our policy team through building and managing state and federal political relationships, managing legislative advocacy strategies, and supporting local and regional advocacy.

    This position will both lead and execute the League’s lobbying and grassroots advocacy efforts, assist the policy team in building key legislative and agency relationships, track legislation and policy, track updates and movement of all relevant environmental plans, policies, projects, and funding opportunities for Lake Tahoe, and ensure that League executives and Policy Team members are informed and up to date on environmental issues. No plan, project or program happens in Tahoe without the League’s involvement. The successful PPM candidate will step right into the flow and be positioned to make an impact immediately. 

    This position will report to the Policy Director. 

    Professional experience in some combination of natural sciences, state and/or federal legislative process, planning, environmental management, policy development, and political lobbying/grassroots campaigning is optimal for success in this position.

    The League has a hybrid work structure that does not require employees to be in the office daily. However, based on the nature of this work, we ask that this position be based somewhere in the Tahoe Basin. 

    What the position involves:  

    The PPM is the legislative liaison and administrator for all League advocacy and policy priorities. The PPM also contributes to the Policy Team’s local and regional advocacy efforts including preparing for and attending public meetings, tracking and analyzing environmental policies and plans, and supporting the Policy Team by sharing administrative duties.  Duties often include: 

    • Working with the CEO, Policy Director, and Natural Resource Director to develop the League’s overarching policy strategy.  
    • Advising the CEO and Policy Director on where their time can be most effective in moving the League’s legislative priorities forward. 
    • Managing relationships and ongoing contact with local, state, and federal jurisdictions to help move the League’s priorities in a thoughtful, targeted, and educated manner.  
    • Managing administrative and logistical aspects of the League’s lobbying efforts at local, state, and federal levels, including all advocacy groups we chair. Acting as the point of contact for advocacy consultants and partners. Scheduling meetings, taking notes, and helping identify legislative opportunities.  
    • Advocating before the State Legislature, federal partners, local agencies, administrative agencies, and stakeholder meetings. 
    • Managing and executing lobbying days, tours, and other events with targeted Tahoe political champions identified in coordination with consultants. 
    • In collaboration with other staff, supporting the League’s strategic campaigns to advance the organization’s mission and positions. Such strategies may include community organizing, stakeholder collaboration, presenting at public meetings and events, building alliances with other community or environmental groups, and creating relationships with partners and stakeholders. 
    • Plan and manage team meetings, track all team member projects, and document progress and metrics of success. 
    • Tracking and reviewing agendas and materials for public meetings and working groups and providing summaries of items related to the League’s campaigns and initiatives.  
    • Tracking and informing the Policy Team of proposed plan and policy changes, legislative priorities, and planning developments. Monitoring changes in Tahoe, California, Nevada and federal environmental planning and policy practices. 
    • With support of the Policy Director, develop content for written and oral comments as well as content for lobbying collateral.  
    • Working with the League’s Communications Team to develop advocacy materials and talking points/messaging. 
    • Helping advance the League’s priorities by identifying potential advocacy opportunities and partnerships. 
    • Supporting the Policy Team in receiving, managing, and responding to inquiries from the public. 
    • Participating in continuing education and trainings as needed to accomplish the above responsibilities. 
    Other duties: 
    • Attending meetings and activities as requested by the Policy Director. 
    • Assisting with League events, including mandatory attendance at the Annual Benefit and a choice between the July 5 cleanup and/or Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day (fall) events. Attend other events as requested. 
    • Other duties as assigned. 
    Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: 
    • Degree – or equivalent work experience – in land use planning, environmental policy or science, natural resources, or related fields.  
    • Experience in legislative tracking, research, and analysis at state and federal levels. 
    • Experience with political campaigns and/or grassroots advocacy and lobbying. 
    • Knowledge of major state and federal environmental policies and laws. 
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring advanced critical thinking and decision-making skills. 
    • Ability to maintain professionalism while working on sometimes controversial and disputed issues. 
    • Concise and persuasive technical writing skills.  
    • Excellent time-management skills; ability to manage multiple issue campaigns and projects simultaneously; exercises organizational skills and attention to detail.  
    • Possess professionalism, a collaborative spirit and creative energy. 
    • Computer proficiency with Windows, Office 365 and Google Apps. 
    • Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to travel to and attend frequent public meetings in and around the region that may include evenings and weekends. 
    • Someone who is both self-starting and a team player, while possessing exceptional organizational and communications skills, will thrive in this creative and fast-paced work environment.  
    Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:  
    • Familiarity with Lake Tahoe environmental and policy issues and community dynamics. 
    • An interest and passion for environmental conservation and the League’s mission to protect, restore, and advocate for the ecosystem health and scenic appeal of the Lake Tahoe Basin.  
    League-specific requirements:  
    • The chosen candidate must be able to dependably get around the Lake Tahoe Basin, Bay Area, Reno, and Sacramento at all reasonable hours and in all reasonable weather conditions, including heavy snow, and when public transportation is not available. The League does not provide a vehicle or other forms of transportation.  
    • Position requires some physical activity such as bending, stooping, carrying, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

    Salary range:

    $65,000 – $85,000 DOE
